Table Tennis

Table Tennis is one of the quickest and most skilful sports with the leading players needing explosive power combined with a delicate touch. Table Tennis is a summer sport, however it can be offered in some winter seasons, depending on venue and competition availability.

Facilities and Coaching

Table Tennis is played at PaddoRSL in Paddington. The facility allows students to train on twelve tables simultaneously and provides easy access from the school. Students are involved in speed and agility sessions on Monday mornings to improve footwork and speed, and two skills specific sessions during the week. Students compete on Saturday鈥檚 against various schools, in venues across Sydney.

Students participating in the table tennis program at Sydney Boys High School receive top level guidance from Peter Masen, a National Level 3 coach with elite competition experience. Peter has won the NSW Table Tennis Men鈥檚 Open champion multiple times and the Tasmanian Table Tennis Men鈥檚 Open champion multiple times. He was coach and manager of the Australian team at the 2010 World Team Cup Classic. Peter placed 5th in the men's singles at the 1977 Chinese National Youth Championship.

Competitions and Results

Students compete in a number of tournaments per year including:

• Sydney East CHS Knockout progressing to NSW CHS Knockout
• Saturday competitions against select GPS and CAS schools

In recent years, Sydney High table tennis has seen strong results in various tournaments, including:

• 2024 - Sydney East CHS Runners Up
• 2024 - Schoolboys Shield 1st in Intermediate Division
• 2023 - Sydney East CHS Knockout Winners
• 2022 - Sydney East CHS Knockout Winners
