From the Principal

High Talent
At this year’s UNSW Invitational Debating tournament High successfully defended its Junior and Intermediate titles. Our teams were Junior – Samir Kinger, Ashwin Rudder, Nikhil Autur, Michael Tickner – Intermediate – Julian Byrnes, Stephen Garofano, Louis Appleton and Anton Jurisevic. Congratulations, boys! In the Tri-Series Sailing Phillip Kurts (Year 10) won the 4.7 Laser again, proving his consistency in competition. Muhamed Mehmedbasic (Year 11) improved in full rig Lasers over the regattas to take out third. Well done!

Year 9 Group Meeting
I was pleased to be able to address the Year 9 Parents Group meeting recently on the school’s directions for School Within a School. I outlined 5 priorities for High Junior School : focussing on whole student development, building a sense of belonging, supporting our students, fostering academic success and developing future leaders. Personal development discourse will govern our thinking about High Junior School. Teaching and learning will have developing the whole human being as their driving principle. Reflecting that belief, curriculum offerings are internally composed, relatively flexible, more often personalised, choice-based and ipsative (from the self) in assessment orientation. Meta-learning is a feature of such discourse and support people help individuals to grow as persons. By comparison, the learning orientation of High Senior School is focussed on developing mastery of academic content and reinforcing academically valued skills across the curricula for examination success. Reflecting that goal, curriculum is externally developed, rigorous, inflexible, top down and competitive. Teachers prepare students for examinations.

What are some practical steps that might reveal a discourse of personal development? Teachers and coaches work on moulding positive attitudes towards school, learning, participation and perseverance as well as perceptions of self- concept and personal efficacy. New knowledge needs to be scaffolded to help students move from acquisition to understanding. To grow, adolescent boys need guidance in time management and investigations skills. Knowledge can be embedded through students undertaking personally relevant and meaningful tasks. By Year 9 we aim to move boys towards capacities as independent, autonomous learners.

What might happen with the model? Programs 7-9 will be reworked and refined to accommodate stage 4 & 5 compaction. More extension activities will be offered aimed at promoting personal choice, responsibility for learning and good work habits. The House System may well be revived through contests among houses in sports and co-curricular activities – chess, debating, public speaking or I see SWAS as supplying a framework for the ‘warp and weft’ of personal development support. Leadership roles for boys in High Junior School will be expanded. I see extra personnel and activities as the ‘warp and weft’ of this tapestry. Assistant Year Advisers mean six people are there to promote engagement. I hope to add beefed up House Patrons roles to foster more vertical activities. I am open to suggestion as to how our model might be improved.

School Uniform Enforcement
At this week’s Executive meeting a full and frank discussion of school uniform standards led to a declaration of ‘zero tolerance’ of poor dress code. Counselling boys about shirts hanging out and ties slung low and generally slovenly sartorial demeanour is not getting the desired results. Unfortunately, sanctions are now necessary. Boys should no longer be expected to be asked or warned to comply with the school’s dress code. Various faculties have individual approaches, as do teachers. However, more needs to be done by us as a school community to uphold our standards and preserve our image. Lunch, morning or afternoon detentions may be imposed. Some students are volunteering as ‘door men’ to ensure boys entering class comply with the dress code to avoid negative consequences. Some teachers stand at the door and only let in students correctly attired. Some have students do push ups when out of uniform. Some faculties have weekly detentions for overall low level discipline issues. I applaud any reasonable interventions that work. The bottom line is that we are sick of asking and propose to act without further warning to raise the standard of school uniform wearing. Teachers are asked to be proactive and students are asked to stop avoiding and to start complying. Be aware that one hour morning detentions are waiting for non-conformers.

Sound and Lighting
We need some interested boys 7-9 and 10-12 to be the people who guarantee sound and lighting functioning at school assemblies and events. Interested boys would receive appropriate training before pulling on the ‘black tee shirt’ of authority. If you are interested let your Year Adviser know or give your name and year to Mrs Meakin.

Winter Sports Selections
Mr Ayre has been seeing students about winter sports selections. Some boys have been surprised by the passion he has displayed in promoting his desire for maximised participation in GPS winter sport. May I remind students and parents that this school has always been transparent and up front about its expectations about participation in sport, GPS sport in particular.

Fencing

Students have been asked to register for Winter Fencing over the past two weeks.

Registration and indemnity/affiliation forms are available from outside the art staffroom. Registration forms are to be given to Ms May and indemnity/affiliation forms are to be signed by parents and handed in (with money) at the first competition if not done already.

ALL students need to register for this sport, whether they have fenced in the past or not.

Did you know?
Did you know that Justice James Spigelman (1962) is not the only Chief Justice of NSW to have attended Sydney High? Sir Frederick Jordan (1897) was Chief Justice 1934-1949. Justice R P Meagher once wrote of him: “In public, he seemed a rather austere man. At public functions he could be relied on, so it was said, to utter a ‘few well-frozen words’. But in truth, he led a completely civilized life. His chief delight was to spend his time reading in his vast private library. He loved good food and had a true connoisseur's love and appreciation of wine. He delighted in the conversation of his scholarly and distinguished friends... He disliked cocktail parties and abhorred sport.” Yet he still agreed to be Patron of the OBU 1934-1949.

Tennis

Match Report 3rd – 6th Grades Against Scots College

Third Grade
The Third Grade won all matches played against Scots College with Danny Fu and Amadeus Klocker convincingly winning their singles matches 6:2 and 6:3 respectively; and Danny Fu / Daniel Chim winning the first doubles match 6:3. The second doubles, James Pham / Amadeus Klocker, and the singles matches of James Pham and Daniel Chim were stopped due to rain and recorded as draws. Result: High 4.5 and Scots 1.5, making this the Third Grade’s third win this season.

Fourth Grade
Albert Kim / Nicholas Hayes lost their doubles 2:6, and Alex Shapilsky / Simon Ting won theirs 6:3. With all singles matches being stopped the overall result for the Fourth Grade was a draw.

Fifth Grade
Matthew Rusli / Anthony Huynh won the first doubles match with a convincing 6:2; and Alex Dovan / Tam Mai won the second in a tight match 6:5. In the Singles Matthew Rusli 6:0, Tam Mai 6:3 and Anthony Huynh 6:0 won their matches compellingly, however Alex Dovan had to forfeit his due to a shoulder injury. Result: High 5 and Scots 1.

Sixth Grade
The Sixth Grade won 5:1 with only two matches being played. TSC forfeited the first doubles of Edwin Montoya / Michael Myronenko and the second doubles was forfeited because both High and TSC, had an incomplete team, leaving Toni Cai without a partner and without an opponent. Great singles wins by Edwin Montoya, 6:1 and Michael Myronenko 6:3.

NSW CHS Tennis Report
Last week, from Wednesday 14 to Friday 16 March 2007 John Gaunt and myself (Matt King) participated in the Boys Individual Tennis State Championship at Nepean Tennis Centre, Penrith. We represented the Sydney East region in a Round of 64 draw consisting of open public school boys from across the state. We had to reach the round of 16 (win two matches) to qualify for the NSW CHS team as well as Pizzey Cup trials later this month in Wollongong. The format of matches was a “pro set” whereby it is first to nine games. Both of us qualified through to the next stage of Pizzey Cup Trials on Tuesday 27 - Wednesday 28 March at Beaton Park, Wollongong. John had an excellent result in the singles making the semi finals while coming runner up in the open doubles with myself. We will now be representing NSW CHS individual against other associations like CIS (Combined Independent Schools) and CCS (Combined Catholic Schools) to combine to make the NSW Pizzey Cup team.

Sydney High Rifle Club Open Day

The Sydney High Rifle Club’s open day was a major success with more than 100 people turning up last Saturday with over half of them trying out their marksmanship on the small bore range at the Malabar Anzac Rifle Range. Visitors of all ages took advantage of the free shoot, the gold coin donation barbeque and the regular shuttles that departed to and from the clubhouse and rifle range. The day ended with a stunning shoot off between old boys and current High first graders followed by a dinner celebrating the 10 year’s anniversary of the 1996 Bisley Tour.

Music Notes

Music Tuition
All parents of students having instrumental lessons at the school should be aware that invoices have been sent out. Your prompt payment for music tuition for the term is appreciated. If you have any enquiries about the invoice, please contact the music department on Monday or Tuesday and speak to Julia O’Hare.

Marching Band 2007
Rehearsals are progressing well with boys showing great commitment to marching and practising their music. They are starting to shape into a great ensemble and will be wonderful ambassadors for the school on ANZAC Day. The Music Committee has purchased special marching band equipment – 4 ultralight marching snares and harnesses, marching cymbals, and an ultralight set of quad drums with harness. We would like to thank the Music Committee for their support of this important school and community service.

Uniform required on ANZAC Day (Wednesday 25th of April 2007) will be:

• Long grey trousers
• Black polished shoes with black socks
• Long sleeve white shirt with school tie
• School blazer (this is mandatory)

There will be an extra rehearsal for all students on Wednesday 4th of April from 7:30 -10:30am at school. All music must be memorised before this rehearsal as this is the final run through before the March.

Head of the River Stage Band
The band has been rehearsing on Tuesday lunchtimes for this GPS carnival and will perform at the Sydney High stand on the day. Students and instruments will be transported from school to Penrith and back by bus. This bus will be departing at 6:30 am sharp. Please ensure participating student are at school with their instruments promptly.

Athletics/Cross Country

All athletics and cross country runners for 2007! Training starts now!

All you medium and long distance runners who want to run GPS Athletics, or train for Cross Country, we have a couple of training options available for you this year. It's highly recommended that you do some training now. You'll be fitter and more competitive come GPS, and you'll be more likely to make the GPS team.

Training will be with accomplished coach Sean Williams () who takes a squad of competitive athletes at either McKay or Queens Park. He will give you a program and guide you with your training. I myself have trained with Sean while at school and since and can vouch for his effectiveness.

Option 1
For those who are willing to commit to four or five sessions a week, and can run any one of these times, come down to squad trainings. The price is $20 a month. Times are:

Session meet at 4:30pm at Queens Park (near exercise equipment and toilet block)

For those who don't want to commit to extended training, but want to do a bit to get some base fitness for the GPS season, come and join the morning sessions at McKay. $10 a session (discounts apply for multiple sessions), beginning at 6:15am Tuesdays and Thursdays. Along with this you get the Saturday and Sunday sessions above for free.

For either option, just come down to a session and join in, or call Sean or myself for more information. The sooner the better!

Option 3
For those who want to do their own thing, there will be programs and guidelines available from Mr Devlin soon. You should try to make one of the above options but if you can't, please pick up a program to guide your training.

Directions
After the Athletics Carnival, students are to walk back to school.
Students are to cross the road at lights only
Stay in school grounds, then move over to the venue when the bell rings
When your race is called go to the starting area whether you are running or not.
Non runners will stay in the starting area until directed to move by the Marshals
At the finish you will be given a place ticket
If you are in the first 15 places you go to the first 15 table and have your name recorded
All runners to proceed with finish ticket to your house table
Tell the teacher your name and finishing position
After the race you will be dismissed by a teacher
Non runners will have names marked off at the end of the race

You must run in shoes
Stay on the course and follow directions from course marshals
Spectators must stay within 20m of Cleveland St and are not permitted on the course
Winning house determined by the lowest total of the first ten runners to finish
Award Scheme qualifying standard -compete & finish
Top ten runners will comprise the provisional school team to compete at the zone
Only the first 15 places will be timed
Cross Country Champions will be selected from this event (pending the outcome of any appeals that may arise)
Any MIC ruling is final

The School Cross Country is the first qualifying event within the CHS Competition
The first 10 runners for each age division will make up the school team for the Eastern Suburbs Zone Carnival
The first 12 runners at the Zone Carnival will compete at the Sydney East Regional Carnival and the first 10 runners from Regional Carnival go on to the NSW All Schools Carnival.

You are also invited to join the Sydney High GPS Cross Country Team. GPS Cross Country is a Winter Sport and three age divisions ( U14, U16, Opens) compete on Saturday mornings. The season spans across terms 2 and 3 and involves 11 Saturday morning carnivals. All are welcome to join.

Head of the River

Sydney Boys High School Rowing Committee would like to invite our whole school community to come along and support our Rowers at the annual blue ribbon event in schoolboy rowing:

Head of the River to be held at
Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith on
Saturday, 31 March

Events kick off at 10.00am sharp.
Supporters should gather at the Sydney High tent on the “island” side.
There will be a band playing to add to the atmosphere.
Bring the family and a picnic and enjoy a great day out.

Rowers’ families might like to join us at the sheds for post race and end of season celebrations.

Could rowing families please also note a working bee will be held at Abbotsford Rowing Sheds on Sunday, 1 April from 9.00 am.
Boys will be required to help with boat loading for CHS.

We also need to clean up kitchen, dorms etc, so an hour or two of your time would be greatly appreciated.

The Onion Bag

Sydney High Football: Season 2007
With the football season beginning term 2, its time to start preparing for the season ahead. Boys intending to represent HIGH in GPS competition need to have all the required equipment. Football boots, shin pads, Sydney High kit (shirt, shorts and socks) are all compulsory and a water bottle is highly recommended at all training sessions and fixtures. A reminder that a commitment to play for HIGH is a commitment to play every game, not just those that suit.

Coaches and Managers Required
Football at Sydney High relies heavily on support from old boys and parents to help out as coaches, team managers and referees. I would be keen to hear from anyone who would be willing to assist in any of these capacities. No experience is necessary, a coaching program and all equipment is supplied. Training sessions for the 13s, 14s and 15s are on Thursdays 1-3pm and opens and 16s are on Wednesdays 1-3pm. All games are held on Saturday mornings. It is particularly important for junior teams to have a manager/coach to help with organisation on game days.

Opens and CHS Knock Out Round 1
Aspiring first and second graders have been fitness training with Jason Tassell on Mondays and skills training each Friday morning since late last year. The benefits of these sessions were displayed in full with a comprehensive 4-nil victory over Kogarah High in the first round of the CHS knock out. The team was a mix of experienced members of last year’s first and second grade teams and several debutants. High, led by captain Gehan Karunaratne, were quickly into stride, dominating play and created several excellent chances. The control of possession finally told on Kogarah and High went to the half time break 2-nil up, courtesy of goals to D’arcy Blaxell and Josh Weight.

The second half was a much tighter affair as Kogarah threw everything they had at High. A combination of stout defence, strong goal keeping and some favourable decisions from the referee saw High resist all of Kogarah’s sorties. As Kogarah tired, Jeremy Luscombe took advantage to slot home after a superb individual run. In the final minutes Daniel Chiu sweetly drove home an opportunistic goal, when targeted by a clever long range throw from Tom Castleton. The final 4-nil result may not have been a true reflection of the evenness of both teams but it was certainly a very promising start to the 2007 season.

Are you getting the debating emails?

Anyone can join debating- no experience is necessary! Information packages are now available from Miss Brewer - please come and collect one and start attending coaching on Fridays as soon as possible.

Coaching has started!
Coaching is on Fridays and runs from 3.20pm to approximately 4.30-4.45pm (depending on your Year level). If you cannot attend training in Term 1 due to summer sporting commitments, please still collect the registration info and sign up now so we can plan for the number of debaters accordingly.

UNSW Debating Tournament- 18/03/07
Congratulations to the 6 junior and 2 intermediate teams who attended the Invitational Tournament at UNSW last Sunday. A special “well done” goes to the team consisting of Samir Kinger, Ashwin Rudder, Nikhil Autar and Michael Tickner who took out the Junior division and Julian Byrnes, Stephen Garofano, Louis Appelton and Anton Jurisevic who were victorious in the Intermediate division which we also won last year. Their round-up of the day will appear in High Notes shortly.

Parking
Parking is vital fundraising. Our next parking date is coming up and we are seeking your assistance with parking in order to raise funds for coaching. If you haven't helped out with parking before, I especially urge you to get involved and donate your time. Helping is really easy and a vital source of income for the Debating Program.

Another successful week!
Seconds played an amazing game against Scots on the weekend. It was extremely unfortunate that the fouls were not given within the last minute but the Seconds’ game. Many spectators believe they were the true winners. The 15s are unstoppable! 3 weeks in a row of ‘A’ grade victory and this week the whole grade doubled their opponents’ score! This is probably a record for high! Can’t wait till they’re in 1sts! Well done to the 16As and 16Bs, finishing off their age group games strong and hopefully the same with Grammar. Grammar will be our last game this season. I urge all of you to come and watch the 1st grade game and cheer for them this Saturday 11.15AM at our school gym.

Level 0 and Level 1 Statistics Courses
Are you interested in the wonderful world of basketball stats? Then you will be interested to know that NSBA is holding two courses which will have you qualified and calling "turnover green 54, bad pass" in no time! Your Call Ref!

For those of you who remembered last weeks question and want to revise it...WATERFOUL 7 and WATERFOUL 14 are passing the ball to each other in their front court. WATERFOUL 7 does a bad pass and the ball goes into their back court. WATERFOUL 9 retrieves the ball after the ball makes it to the 3 second area, and a passing back violation is correctly called. Where is the ball brought back into play?

a) From the free throw line extended at the side line?
b) From the centre line extended at the side line?
c) From the end line?
d) By anywhere the ref wants?
e) At 33° 20' N 44° 24' E, best take your Kevlar vest.

Art.22.2 Says: The ball shall be awarded to the opponents for a throw-in at the place nearest to where the infraction took place. The infraction took place when WATERFOUL 9 retrieved the ball in the 3 second area, therefore the ball should be put into play from the end-line.

I have been asked, several times, this week: When does the clock start after free-throws? (That is, of course, only in games where the clock stops for every whistle)

a) When the ball leaves the hand of the shooter on the last free throw?
b) When the ball touches the ring on the last free-throw?
c) When the ball touches a player after it touches the ring on the last free-throw?

Open Day participants on target at Malabar

The Rifle Club conducted a hugely successful Open Day at the ANZAC Rifle Range at Malabar last Saturday. More than sixty students, parents. ex-students, siblings and friends attended and tried the sport of small-bore target rifle shooting.

Participants were allowed to try the sport under the close supervision of the Club’s range officers and instructors. Amongst the club’s range officials helping introduce people to the sport were an ex-1956 Olympic Games shooter, Peter Wrigley an Old Boy of Scots College) and four representatives from previous International Under 25 World Championships. Sam Kremer (1992), a member of the Australian Army’s Rifle Team to the United Kingdom in 2000, was Chief Range Officer with school coaches Daniel Comben (2003), Justin Hill (2002) and former MIC Target Shooting, Geoff Blinkhorne, also range officers.

After visitors completed required documentation at the School’s clubhouse, they were transported by mini-bus to the NSW Small-bore Association’s 50 metre range and, after a safety briefing, were given the chance to fire ten shots from a .22 calibre target rifle. To score a bullseye, a shot had to land within a circle smaller than the size of a five cent coin. At the same time, the Club hosted a barbecue outside the range building.

In the afternoon, the Open Day continued on the full-bore range, with the Sydney High Alumni Rifle Club (SHARC) coordinating a full-bore shooting match at 400 metres from the targets.

Open days are authorised by the NSW Police, to give people an opportunity to try the sport of target shooting, without the requirement to first obtain a firearms licence or permit

On Saturday night, a Rifle Club dinner was held in the Great Hall. The dinner was well attended by students, parents, and alumni, with many apologies also received for the night, from as far afield as Berlin. The dinner was held to mark ten years since the successful 1996 Tour to Bisley and 1997 Tour to the Centenary Queen’s Prize Competition in Tasmania. (Few people know that the School’s current Toyota Coaster bus made its 'maiden voyage’ on the Spirit of Tasmania for this tour, only a few weeks after the school purchased it. During the tour, the bus was parked on the lip of the largest open cut mine in the state. Fortunately, the handbrake was in good order)

Next year is Sydney High’s 125th anniversary. Within two months of the School’s establishment, a rifle team was entered in competition. As part of the School’s 125th anniversary celebrations, the Rifle Club has proposed constructing an indoor air rifle range on campus, the JW Sweet Air Rifle Range.

The school has concentrated on small-bore (.22”) and full-bore (.308”) in the past, but competition air rifle has been shown to be an excellent training discipline, as well as being a challenging Olympic sport in its own right.

Whilst many are familiar with air rifles being used at fairs and carnivals, such as the Royal Easter Show, air rifle shooting, with competition-grade .177” air rifles, is an exacting sport, with a bullseye only a little larger than a full-stop on this page. Air rifles are quiet and environmentally friendly, using no propellant charge other than compressed air.

The Rifle Club has already conducted considerable fund-raising for this project, and is also investigating grant options and a business model that would provide the school with a first class air rifle facility, at no cost to the school.

Sydney Boys High Cricket

Final Chance – Bookings for Cricket Dinner & Award Night
The Dinner and Award is being held on Wednesday 4th April, 6:30 pm for 7:00 pm in the Great Hall at School. Next Tuesday 27 March is the last chance to book pay for your tickets at the school office. Don’t miss out on a good night’s entertainment as well as taking part in the MONSTER $5-00 raffle to be conducted at the Dinner with multi prizes such as cricket pads, souvenir bats (including Brian Lara’s autograph) and a range of 10 prizes. You may purchase more than one ticket and after each prize is drawn as ALL tickets go back in the draw for the next prize.

Cricket Kit Returns
All cricket kits are due for return this Saturday at the completion of matches. As most teams are close to the school kits can be delivered to me at the Gymnasium immediately after games to assist with winter storage. All kits are to be tagged by teams with the team designator (eg. 16B, 14A etc). If I am not in attendance deposit kits in the foyer of the gym and I will subsequently stow them.

Off Season clinics and camps
Applications will be offered to boys wishing to attend off-season training which will commence in August. It is proposed to conduct Junior (Years 7 & 8) and Senior (Year 9 and Opens) clinics and camps. Applications will be available next week on the last day of summer sport

1st XI (day 1)
HIGH 9/183 (rain stopped play) -versus- SCOTS
High won the toss and batted and from 4/40 and 6/60 where loose shots and lack concentration cost wickets, recovered by building partnerships and reached 9/183 before rain intervened. Run scorers were Dakshika Gunaratne (57), Tom Castleton (28), Aditya Naik (26), (Dasith)M. Vithanage (20) and Reuben George (12n.o). Day 2 of this match offers High a chance of victory to end the season.

2nd XI (day 1)
HIGH 9/122 (rain stopped play) -versus- SCOTS
High won the toss and batted losing some early wickets but Alisdair Brown (34) and Nakul Pedneker (31) helped High to its current score when rain stopped play. Depending on the GPS ruling, High are in with an opportunity to turn this result into a win.

3rd XI (day 1)
HIGH -versus- SCOTS 4/159 (rain stopped play)
After a good start Scots got back into the game through some lack lustre fielding and inexperience in respect to field placings when they were hitting out. However, due to the rain Scots may not put many more runs on the board and High can chase them down. The wicket takers were Shiva Seth 3 wkts and Andy Liu 1 wkt. Congratulations to Kieran Taylor, Brian Kelly and Andy Liu on their debut in senior ranks

16A (day 1)
HIGH -versus- SCOTS 6/70 (rain stopped play)

15A (day 1)
HIGH 8/220 -versus- SCOTS
High batted first and after a slow start with only 29 in the first session exploded after drinks with Kieran Taylor (58), Brian Kelly (53n.o) and Shadman Ali (24) being the main scorers. Vital partnerships of 31 in 4 overs (Brian Kelly & Sheijil Kumar) followed by 39 (Brian and Shadman Ali) and a 9th wkt partnership of 39 runs in the last 5 overs was the key to the team’s best performance for the season. Day 2 will see High looking for wickets with controlled bowling, sound catching and fielding and pressing Scots at every turn.

14A (day 1)
HIGH 5/205 -versus- SCOTS
At last it’s all come together for a team that has talent but couldn’t find a day when all fired. High were sent into bat by an over confident Scots team who may yet rue the decision. An opening stand of 70 before Nakul Bhagwat (43) was dismissed then Michael Phung(34), Pasan Pannila(15), Kumudika Gunaratne(10), Raghib Siddiquee (4) piled on the runs with a sheet anchor innings by Ryan McDonald (77n.o) and Nathan Kok (12n.o) who were both at the wicket at stumps. Day 2 will be the test for High’s bowlers who will need to ensure that they bowl a good line and length and have the support in the field.

5th XI (day 1)
HIGH 10/75 -versus- GRAMMAR (6th) 3/30
In an end of season 2 day fixture High was sent in to bat and on an unresponsive batting track only managed 75 with Arthaven Surendran the only score of note making 15. High then took the field after an early breakthrough lost the advantage turfing 2 catches but recovered through the Captain Rommo Pandit who took 2/16 with consecutive deliveries and has a chance for a hat trick next week with his first ball

HIGH 7/89 (24 overs) -drew with- SCOTS 10/167 (30overs) Rain stopped play. High won the toss and believe it or not put Scots in to bat !! At 6/63 it looked like a good decision but retired batsmen returned and took our bowlers on in the late overs. Wicket takers were Angud Chawla a standout with 5/21 and Jimari Bastable and Liam Aylmer with 2 wkts each. High batted and were 7/89 when play was abandoned for the day with David Ma (29) and Rayan Khan (11) the main run scorers.

Another win, No 10 for this team. Main run scorers were William Shao (22 retd), Leon Li (22n.o), Isaac Everleigh (16) Richard Li (11) and Leo Lu (10), The wicket takers were Derek Wei 3/8 (6 overs), Botong Cheng 2/14 (5), Leo Lu, William Shao, Matthew So and Vincent Wang took one wkt each.

REDDAM 8/161 -defeated- HIGH 10/43
Not the best of days for the “Ds” with only Saqib Bhuiyan (6), Vivian Le (3) and Rahib Azwad(3) scoring runs from the bat. Four other players scored one or two runs apiece. Wicket takers were Rahib Azwad 2, Kevin Quinlan 2, Tahmid Shahriyar, Yasser Chowdhury and Vivian Lee 1 wkt each

SCOTS 7/143 -defeated- HIGH 10/16
High got early wickets when Scots batted and at 3/16 were on top and then a 70 run partnership put Scots on top and High took another 4 wickets before the last pairs scored heavily. Wicket takers were Tom Connelly 2/11 (5 overs), Hiram Yi 2/13 (3), Alexander Hughes 1/42 and Luke De La Cour 1/11(3). High then batted and a hat-trick in the first over completely destroyed High’s chances of a win in this match with Tian Ling (5),Christopher Oei (4n.o) and Shumit Hoque the only batsmen scoring runs.

SCOTS 7/173 -defeated- HIGH 10/74 Scots won the toss and batted and were in real trouble at 6/50 and then 3 good partnerships saw them reach 173.Wicket takers were Wilson Lin 2/40 (5overs),Ahdil Ansareen 1/13(5), Emitiazul Hoque 1/7 (5), Dhruv Sabharwal 1/19(5), and Zafar Mohamed 1/35(5). High batting were going well at 4/65 and then a batting collapse. Run scorers Emitiazul Hoque (26), Dhruv Sabharwal (12), Tejas Iyer (4)and Jim Koukouras and Zafar Mohamed 3 runs each.

SCOTS 5/107 (22 overs) -defeated- HIGH 7/106 (30 overs) In an exciting finish to this match High could not hold out Scots within their overs mainly through poor fielding after batting first. Run Scorers were Allen Fu (17), Harry Heo (13), Wade Yang (10), Kevin Krahe (6), Kenny Zhang (4) Peter Wu (2n.o) and newcomer Cassidy Zhang made his first run. Wicket takers were Wade Yang 1/16 (5overs) and Kevin Krahe 2/13 (3).
