High Talent

I offer my belated congratulations to Max Russell (11T) on his cross-country success as open champion for the season. Henry Lau (10S) has been selected in a squad of 14 to represent Australia at the U15 FIBA Oceania Basketball Tournament to be contested in Guam in November. Congratulations, Henry!

Year 9 into Year 10 2023 - Subject Selection Information

On Monday evening Mr Kay outlined the electives that are available for students to choose going into Year 10. He described the system of recording student preferences and how it was used to determine how places in electives are allocated in the event of there being more places wanted than are available. I offered a power point presentation of subject acceleration – what it is, why we offer it, results from the last five years and how students apply and are selected for the intervention. I explained how Individual Learning Plans are integral to the management of subject acceleration and what possible outcomes follow from taking an accelerated subject. For Year 9 students or their parents who missed the presentation, it can be found on our community website at:

Year 10 Course Choice and Career Interviews

This week many staff were involved in one-on-one interviews with Year 10 students prior to them choosing their pattern of study for Year 11 next year. The boys prefilled a form probing their interests and possible career choices via tertiary course intentions. They had to think about a realistic ATAR and what their best suite of courses might be. It is an important process that we asked parents to be involved in to ensure broad consultation about possible pathways. This is the second year that we have run these sessions and we believe that they have proved to be beneficial, as evidenced by fewer requests for course changes during this year from current Year 11 students. Thank you to our relieving Careers Adviser, Matt Cotton for his management of this interview and accountability process. Thank you to our busy teaching staff who gave of their time so freely to discuss curriculum and vocational pathways with our students.

References for Year 12

We held our references meeting last Friday, at which students were given personalised information sheets about how their school references would be compiled. The process was explained and the deadlines for action outlined. The cover sheet with the three teachers’ names on it had to be handed into the Main Office by Tuesday, September 6. The student paragraph had to be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by Friday, September 9. Many people are involved in this important process and a great deal of time is spent to ensure that the engagement and achievements of all our graduating students are recognised and acknowledged in the school references.

Open Day 2022

There was unprecedented interest in our Open Day this year, with 1000 people registering for the live event and another 200 for the afternoon online session. The organisation of the event became much more complicated given the larger expected number of visitors. I want to thank Stephanie Francis for her very dedicated efforts in organising this Open Day. Thank you also to the Media Team and James Walker for their live streaming of the afternoon session and Q & A with prospective parents.
