Year 10 Peer Support and Big Brother AssemblyAll Year 10 students who have successfully completed all requirements for Peer Support this year and Big Brother at the end of last year will be presented to the school at a formal assembly on Thursday 28th August from 9:50am-10:40am. Parents of these students are welcome to come along to watch the assembly.

SBHS FootballFootball Results – 2014 Term 3 Week 5
MIC of Football ReportLast Saturday we came up against the highly competitive St Ignatius’ College, Riverview. They have won 10 of the last 15 premierships so we knew coming into this that it was going to be no easy feat. The results may not look positive, but there is always something we can take out of this and that is the results of our 1st-4th XI. This proves with a lot of hard work, good attitude and wanting to play to our best ability for the school week in and week out the results will come our way. Our 4th XI once again put in a strong performance that continually set the standard for our top three teams. Along with the 3rd XI both sides had opportunities to score, but ended up with what was a fair result 0-0. The 2nd XI are the result of having seven players missing from our 1st/2nd XI squad. This can unsettle the team whereby they have to continually change their structure. This is why we are even more proud of our 1st XI to come away with a 2-2 draw. Last year we were beaten 1-9 and coming into this game the Riverview boys were already looking at a win before kick-off. Our boys played extremely well being the enforcers and deservedly taking a 1-0 lead into the half time break thanks to a great header over the keepers head into the corner by Adil Nadir. In the second half Riverview knew they had to score quickly to get themselves back into the game. They stepped up the tempo and challenged our boys. Unfortunately we conceded two goals in five minutes with Riverview now believing they will race away with the win. Once again, and I have been writing about this for the past four weeks, our boys attitude has been superb and continued to play hard. We pushed forward and with about 10 minutes remaining we were tackled inside the penalty box with Adil converting from the spot and scoring his second goal for that match. We were very pleased with our boys with their work ethic and attitude to continually play for the whole 80 minutes. We are currently sitting in fourth place on the ladder. Next week we have Scots who Joeys beat 2-1 over the weekend, which gives us a lot of hope knowing we drew with Joeys. The team of the week goes to a team that has improved dramatically over the past couple of weeks. This goes to our 13As who over the course of the season have had very strong opposition and have had some big defeats. The previous week against Newington they only lost 0-3 and last Saturday against Riverview they came away with 1-1 draw. This is evidence of hard work and dedication to continually aim for improvement. The 13Es should also be proud of their efforts scoring their first goal for the season with loud applause coming from the side line. Eatrend Wang once again continues to notch up his scoring tally to 12 for the GPS season (not including his 10 in one match in a trial game). With heavy rain forecast for the week and weekend we are still aiming to make sure we get as many games on as possible for our 5th round match against Scots. Scots will be an even contest across the board and hopefully we get some positive results to go our way and reward our boys for their strong work ethic. We have also confirmed a date for our end of season Football prize giving night. This will be held on Saturday 13th September starting at 5pm in the Great Hall. I will be attaching the flyer and emailing it out to all families. Seats are limited to 220 so please get in fast to guarantee a spot. I will make preference to families whose boys will be receiving a prize. I have created a Twitter account for regular updates in results, information and wet weather. From FencingSenior Captain’s Fencing Report
On Saturday 2nd August, three fencing teams from Sydney Boys High competed in the National
Championships in Brisbane. Both our first grade sabre and epee teams achieved an impressive
result, taking out the gold and silver medals respectively. This is an improvement upon our
results from last year when we won gold in sabre and placed fourth in epee. Our recent success is
largely due to the dedication and hard work of all our fencers and, as captain, I would like
congratulate every member in these teams. I would also like to thank our MIC, Mr Higgins, and Chi
Mao in Year 11 for organising our plane tickets. A special thank you needs to go to Mr Huynh for
being our coach and ‘babysitter’ over our weekend in Brisbane. Lastly, I would like
to thank the UNSW coaches, Leo and Arash for their intense training schedules and invaluable bits
of advice leading up to the Nationals. On a final note, I would like to wish all of our fencers
the best of luck in the final few competitions leading up to the end of season.

Volleyball NotesCome and support our final match for the season….On the 23rd August Sydney High will host Grammar in our last match for the season. If Sydney High wins we will be the 2014 GPS Volleyball Champions. Your support at this match could help give our boys that winning edge so come along and be prepared for a great end to the volleyball season. The 1st grade match starts at 11.30 am. In addition we are also hosting an Old Boys match - High v Grammar to celebrate 20 years of volleyball at High. The Old Boys from both schools are preparing themselves for a competitive meeting that will undoubtedly provide great entertainment for those watching. The Old Boys game starts at 10.00am. Annual Football Dinner 2014SBHS Football will celebrate the efforts and achievements of our boys as well as acknowledge staff, coaches and supporters at the SBHS Football dinner. Events such as these are therefore a great opportunity for students and parents to meet all the other friendly faces in the HIGH Football Community. Each team will receive trophies for the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved
